LIHUE, HI, (May 02, 2026) – A 24-year-old Kauai man lost his life and a passenger suffered critical injuries following a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in Lihue.
According to the Kauai Police Department, the incident occurred at 3:10 a.m. when a 2003 Jeep Wrangler traveling eastbound on Kaumualii Highway near Kalepa Street struck a concrete curb. The vehicle then collided with two traffic signal poles before overturning.
Authorities said both occupants were ejected during the crash.
The driver, identified as Caden Garon of Kauai, was transported to Wilcox Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
The passenger was initially taken to Wilcox Medical Center and later transferred to The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu in critical condition.
Investigators believe that speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash. Toxicology results are pending.
The Kauai Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
