Butte crash: Carson Hanson among teens in cliff plunge

BUTTE, MT, (April 07, 2026) – A 15-year-old passenger was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon after a vehicle carrying five teens went off a cliff near the Big M in Butte, authorities said.

Officials reported that a Subaru overcorrected while negotiating a sharp curve at approximately 12:40 p.m., causing it to plunge 40 feet off the roadway and roll multiple times.

Carson Hanson, who was seated in the back, sustained serious spinal injuries affecting the mid-chest and upper back. He was transported from St. James Hospital in Butte to a medical facility in Billings for advanced treatment. A GoFundMe has been created to support his recovery.

SINGLE-VEHICLE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, stated that in cases like this, an independent investigation is crucial to protect victims’ rights.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all factors that must be carefully evaluated,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “In some cases, an accident reconstruction team may be required to determine exactly how the crash occurred. These resources are essential for helping injured victims pursue rightful compensation.”

Vehicle crashes injure approximately 1.9 million people each year in the United States. Common contributing factors include speeding, impairment, distracted driving, failure to stay in lane, and failure to yield.

“Time is extremely important in cases like this, and evidence must be reviewed promptly,” Bond added. “Along with law enforcement, an attorney will examine all contributing factors, hire experts, interview witnesses, and review insurance coverage while protecting the victim’s rights throughout the process,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, Carson Hanson may be entitled to a personal injury claim covering medical and rehabilitation expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.

“Injured victims often pursue personal injury claims to recover significant costs associated with their recovery,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal.

“Insurance companies may attempt to minimize payouts, but an attorney can ensure victims are properly represented and that responsible parties are held accountable,” Formica added.
