PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Michigan recorded 183 pedestrian deaths in 2023, representing a 6% increase from 173 in 2022, according to Michigan State Police. The figure marked the highest number of pedestrian fatalities in the state in 10 years. Authorities also reported that pedestrian-involved crashes rose by 11%, increasing from 1,897 in 2022 to 2,114 in 2023.

The Governors Highway Safety Association states that one contributing factor to the increase is the growing number of SUVs and pickup trucks on roadways, which can make it more difficult for drivers to see pedestrians. Officials noted that pedestrian fatalities nationwide have increased by nearly 60% since 2013.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.
