Brothers Rene Jr., Randy Arredondo killed in San Diego I-8 crash

San Diego, CA, (May 03, 2026) – Two brothers from Texas were killed Sunday evening in a single-vehicle crash along Interstate 8 in San Diego County, authorities said.

The victims were identified as 26-year-old Rene Arredondo Jr. and 25-year-old Randy Arredondo, both of Alamo.

According to officials, the brothers were traveling in a GMC Sierra west of Carrizo Gorge Road when the driver reportedly fell asleep while driving at approximately 70 mph. The pickup struck a median wall and overturned, ejecting both men from the vehicle.

Rene and Randy Arredondo were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a resident of Edinburg, sustained minor injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Family members have launched an online fundraiser to assist with funeral and memorial expenses.

The crash remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

A variety of factors contribute to rising traffic fatalities, with driver behavior playing a central role. Speeding, impaired driving, and distractions such as cellphone use remain leading causes. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 8,055 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes during the first quarter of 2025.

While authorities continue to investigate the cause and liability in this case, Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of an independent investigation.

“In addition to the work performed by law enforcement, an attorney can re-examine witness accounts, review surveillance footage, and obtain phone and texting records of the responsible party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

Timely action is crucial in cases like this to ensure that evidence is preserved and reviewed efficiently for the benefit of the victim’s family.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family members of Rene Arredondo Jr. and Randy Arredondo may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving relatives can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, and pain and suffering following a tragic accident.

“We understand that losing a loved one brings both emotional and financial hardship,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“If a fatal crash results from another party’s negligence, families have the right to seek justice through a wrongful death claim with the guidance of an experienced attorney.”
