Brody Hutto dies in dirt road Toombs County motorcycle collision

TOOMBS, GA, (May 10, 2026) – A 17-year-old boy was killed Sunday afternoon in a head-on collision involving two off-road motorcycles on a rural roadway in Toombs County, according to authorities.

Officials identified the victim as Brody Hutto, a student at Toombs County High School.

Investigators said the crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m. on I D Galbreath Road, a dirt road in the area, when Hutto and an 18-year-old Uvalda man were both operating motorcycles that collided head-on.

Emergency responders arrived to find Hutto had sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said the other rider was critically injured and airlifted to Savannah for emergency medical treatment.

The Georgia State Patrol and Toombs County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

In 2023, motorcycle fatalities in the United States reached 6,335, accounting for 15% of all traffic deaths—the highest number recorded since 1975, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). With a fatality rate of 31.39 deaths per 100 million miles traveled, safety advocates continue to emphasize the need for improved roadway awareness and rider protection.

“Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users,” said Candice Bond, managing partner of Bond Legal. “Even minor collisions can result in severe or fatal injuries, making caution essential for all motorists.”

Bond, an experienced motorcycle accident attorney, noted that cases like this often require an independent investigation led by a qualified attorney to protect the rights of the victim’s family.

“Blind spots, inexperience, and distracted driving are common contributors to these types of crashes. An attorney can help guide grieving families through the process while ensuring a full investigation is conducted and accountability is pursued when traffic laws are violated,” she added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of the victim may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving relatives may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, pain and suffering, and other damages following a fatal crash.

“The emotional distress following the sudden loss of a loved one can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the difficulties families face, and protecting their legal rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will stay informed on the official investigation and work to ensure the family’s interests are fully protected throughout the process.”
