Brian Ballenger arrested in Missoula hit-and-run crash, police say

MISSOULA, MT, (April 10, 2026) – A Missoula man was arrested Friday following a crash that left a motorcyclist critically injured, authorities said.

According to the Missoula Police Department, Brian Ballenger was driving near North Reserve Street and Spurgin Road at approximately 2:30 p.m. when his vehicle collided with a motorcycle. A 35-year-old man sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local trauma center.

Police said Ballenger fled the scene but was located shortly afterward near Schilling Avenue and taken into custody. He now faces multiple charges, including negligent vehicular assault, aggravated DUI, and resisting arrest.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.

DUI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

This crash highlights the dangers posed by impaired drivers, whose actions can have devastating consequences for others on the road.

“Drunken or drug-impaired drivers can face serious criminal charges when their actions result in injury or death,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“In addition to criminal liability, victims and their families may also pursue compensation through a civil lawsuit against the at-fault party,” added Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney.

According to the National Safety Council, approximately 10% of all fatal crashes involve drivers under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication, making impaired driving one of the leading causes of roadway fatalities in the United States.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Brian Ballenger may have the ability to pursue a personal injury claim pending the results of the investigation.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, explained that victims injured in collisions often seek compensation for medical expenses, future care, lost wages, emotional distress, and pain and suffering.

“Insurance companies are often indifferent to the growing financial burdens faced by injured victims,” Formica said. “Legal representation is crucial to ensure accountability and to help victims recover the compensation they deserve.”
