WADSWORTH, Ill. — The Lake County Coroner released the identity of a woman who died in a high-speed crash that injured five others Saturday night.
Bogdana Mygal, 33, of Des Plaines, died from multiple blunt force injuries, an autopsy performed Monday showed. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Newport Fire Protection District responded around 10:15 p.m. Saturday to W. Russell Road and Frontage Road for a three-vehicle crash.
Deputies found multiple injured people and three vehicles with major damage. A preliminary investigation shows a 58-year-old Addison man drove a 2020 Porsche Macan westbound on Russell Road approaching the stop sign at Frontage Road.
A 35-year-old Niles man drove a 2016 Chevrolet Volt ahead of the Porsche. The Chevrolet sat behind a 2020 Mercedes-Benz that a 37-year-old Rolling Meadows woman drove. Both vehicles had stopped at the stop sign.
The Porsche driver failed to stop and struck the Chevrolet’s rear at high speed. The crash force pushed the Chevrolet into the Mercedes-Benz.
Authorities transported Mygal, a passenger in the Chevrolet, to a hospital with critical injuries. She died in the emergency room. The Chevrolet driver and a 4-year-old Niles girl also sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The Mercedes-Benz driver and a 40-year-old Schaumburg man suffered serious injuries. The Porsche driver also sustained serious injuries.
Police believe the Porsche driver was under the influence and speeding. Criminal charges will likely follow his hospital discharge. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team continues investigating.
