Bobby Criado injured after stop-sign crash in Madera County

MADERA, CA, (June 30, 2026) — A 19-year-old passenger suffered life-threatening injuries Tuesday night following a two-vehicle crash at an intersection in Madera County, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The injured victim was identified as Bobby Criado.

Authorities said Criado was riding in a Chevrolet Malibu driven by an 18-year-old when the vehicle reportedly ran a stop sign and collided with a Jeep at approximately 10 p.m. at the intersection of Avenue 17 and Road 28½.

Criado sustained major injuries, including severe brain trauma, and was airlifted to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

According to his family, Criado’s medical team has advised that his injuries are not expected to be survivable. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to help support the family as they face mounting medical and related expenses.

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Stop signs are intended to protect motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians by regulating traffic flow at intersections. However, when drivers fail to obey these traffic controls, serious crashes like the one that critically injured Bobby Criado can occur.

According to the Federal Highway Administration, nearly 40 percent of motor vehicle crashes take place at intersections, with many resulting from motorists running stop signs or traffic lights. Common contributing factors include distracted driving, impatience, and reckless behavior behind the wheel.

Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, said that in cases such as this, an independent investigation can play an important role in preserving evidence and protecting the rights of those affected.

“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liability party,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst with Accident Injury News. “Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide an injured victim during this difficult time, while vigorously protecting their legal rights and best interests.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Bobby Criado may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, explained that the emotional and financial burdens following a catastrophic injury often affect every aspect of a victim’s life, including family relationships, employment, finances, and overall well-being.

“Although no amount of money can make up for a devastating injury, it is important that a victim is made aware of their rights and what they are entitled to by law,” Formica added. “The injured victim in this collision may be entitled to an injury claim, and they may seek recovery for damages including medical expenses, future medical care, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.”
