Bicyclist Nyomi Summers dies after being hit by car in NC

CHARLOTTE, NC (March 28, 2026) – Nyomi Summers, 8, died after being struck by a vehicle while riding her bicycle Saturday evening in Charlotte, according to police.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said the crash occurred around 6 p.m. in the 4600 block of Monmouth Drive when a southbound sedan hit the child after her bicycle entered the roadway from a front yard.

Nyomi was thrown from the bicycle and found seriously injured. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver remained at the scene and was found not to be impaired.

The investigation is ongoing.

BICYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

Bicyclists face serious risks on public roadways. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1,105 cyclists were killed in motor vehicle crashes in 2022, representing an 11 percent increase from the previous year. Head injuries remain one of the leading causes of death, highlighting the importance of helmet use.

“Bicyclists are especially vulnerable in traffic environments, and many different factors can lead to severe accidents,” said Candice Bond, a managing partner with Bond Legal.

“It is essential to determine the precise cause of these incidents. An attorney has the ability to review insurance coverage, consult expert witnesses, conduct background checks, and locate key witnesses. We work closely with families to guide them through the legal process.”

Independent investigations should be conducted promptly to preserve evidence, Bond emphasized.

“In addition to the police report, an attorney will thoroughly evaluate all contributing factors,” she said. “Legal counsel can engage expert witnesses, review driver history, locate witnesses, and analyze insurance policies. Acting as an advocate, an attorney helps guide victims and families through what can often be a complex process.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Nyomi Summers may pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages following a tragic accident.

“The grief and stress following the loss of a loved one can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the difficulties families face, and ensuring their rights are protected is essential. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the investigation and help safeguard the family’s legal interests.”
