BEAUMONT, Texas — Authorities are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on May 25 at 8:40 a.m. along Interstate 10 eastbound near downtown Beaumont. Beaumont Police reported that the driver of a sedan died after the vehicle crashed and caught fire.
The accident happened just minutes after the sedan fled the scene of a separate hit-and-run near Washington Boulevard and 11th Street at 8:30 a.m. Officials said the car continued east on Interstate 10 before crashing in the 800 block.
Gregory White, 56, suffered fatal injuries when the vehicle struck an object and became engulfed in flames. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. A passenger in the car, a 30-year-old Beaumont woman, survived and was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in stable condition.
Beaumont Police confirmed White’s identity and stated that both the hit-and-run and the fatal accident remain under investigation.
