EL PASO, TX, (Aug. 2, 2026) – A 27-year-old man has died six days after he was struck by a motorcycle in a pedestrian accident in El Paso.
According to police, Basheer Farajallah Younis was hit by a motorcycle at approximately 2 a.m. on Aug. 2 in the 3800 block of Fred Wilson Avenue. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries on Aug. 8. The crash remains under investigation.
Pedestrian deaths across Texas have climbed sharply in recent years, rising 22 percent between 2019 and 2023.
Although pedestrian-involved crashes made up just 1 percent of all traffic incidents during that period, they accounted for 19 percent of all roadway fatalities. Texas reported 5,924 pedestrian crashes in 2023 alone, resulting in 808 deaths and 1,457 serious injuries.
