Barbra Thacker killed in El Paso County SUV collision

EL PASO, TX, (June 29, 2026) — A 67-year-old Vernon woman was killed Monday morning in a head-on collision on Interstate 10 near Clint in El Paso County, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said Barbra Thacker was driving an SUV when another SUV traveling westbound crossed the median and entered the eastbound lanes at approximately 10 a.m. The vehicles then collided head-on.

Thacker sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Four other people were injured and were treated following the collision, authorities said.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances that caused the westbound SUV to cross into oncoming traffic.

HEAD-ON ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Head-on crashes are frequently caused by driver error, including distraction, impairment, fatigue, or improper passing. However, excessive speed, hazardous road conditions, and mechanical failures can also play a role in these devastating collisions.

The Insurance Information Institute estimates that approximately 3,631 motorists lose their lives each year in head-on crashes, while the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that frontal-impact collisions account for 58 percent of all occupant fatalities.

Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, said that in cases like this, an independent investigation by an attorney is essential to help preserve evidence on behalf of a victim’s grieving family.

“An attorney can gather the necessary evidence to demonstrate whether a driver’s actions were reckless, a process that often requires significant investigative resources,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst with Accident Injury News. “Serving as an advocate, an attorney can compassionately guide a grieving family through this difficult time, protect their legal rights and best interests, and help ensure that a driver who fails to obey traffic laws is held accountable.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Barbra Thacker may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for the loss of companionship, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and other damages resulting from a tragic or catastrophic accident.

“We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney will remain informed about the official investigation while helping protect the family’s legal rights and best interests. Relatives of wrongful death victims may seek damages for the loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.”
