Bakersfield accident kills cyclist Moises Robles, police say

BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 15, 2026) – An 83-year-old bicyclist was killed after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon in Bakersfield, according to authorities.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Moises Alvarez Robles. The incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. in the 300 block of Chester Avenue, where Robles was riding his bicycle when he was hit by a car.

Emergency responders transported Robles to Kern Medical for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries two days later.

Officials have not released further details regarding the driver or circumstances surrounding the crash. The case remains under active investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Safety data indicate that larger vehicles like SUVs and pickup trucks pose significant dangers to cyclists on U.S. roads. Drivers can help prevent tragedies by allowing enough space and staying alert to vulnerable road users. A total of 1,155 bicyclists were killed in crashes with motor vehicles in 2023. Bicyclist deaths in 2023 were highest during September, October, and July (11%) followed by August (10%), according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

“Bicyclists are particularly vulnerable on the road, and a variety of factors can lead to serious or fatal crashes,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“It is crucial to determine the precise cause of these incidents. An attorney can evaluate insurance coverage, consult expert witnesses, conduct background checks, and locate key witnesses. We guide families carefully through each step of the legal process.”

Bond added that in cases like this, an independent investigation should be initiated promptly to ensure that vital evidence is preserved.

“In addition to reviewing the police report, an attorney will thoroughly assess all contributing factors involved in the crash,” Bond said.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of any investigations, the family members of Moises Alvarez Robles may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Survivors of wrongful death victims may pursue compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, noted, “Families who lose loved ones in these incidents are often overwhelmed by the legal procedures designed to protect their rights.”

“An experienced attorney can serve as a compassionate and valuable resource, helping ensure that families receive the compensation and justice they deserve.”
