Auxvasse man injured in Callaway grain truck crash, MSHP

CALLAWAY, MO (April 15, 2026) — A two-vehicle collision involving a grain truck left one person dead and an Auxvasse man seriously injured Wednesday morning in Callaway County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Authorities reported that a 2008 Ford Fusion traveling eastbound collided with a northbound 1998 Freightliner FLD120 grain truck at the intersection of U.S. Highway 54 and County Road 2002 at approximately 11:55 a.m.

Following the impact, the Ford veered off the roadway and overturned. The Freightliner’s attached unit became dislodged, and the truck came to rest off the left side of the roadway.

A 67-year-old Auxvasse man, who was a passenger in the Ford, sustained serious injuries and was transported to University Hospital for treatment.

The 91-year-old driver of the Ford was taken to a hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash. No additional details were immediately released.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identifies speeding as a leading cause of traffic accidents, followed by impairment from alcohol, drugs, or medication; failure to maintain proper lane position; failure to yield the right of way; and distracted driving.

Roughly 2.2 million people were injured in motor vehicle crashes nationwide in 2023, according to NHTSA data.

“It remains critical to determine the precise cause of accidents like these. An attorney can evaluate insurance coverage, engage expert witnesses, perform background checks, and identify witnesses. We guide victims’ families through every step,” said Candice Bond, managing partner with Bond Legal.

Bond emphasized that independent investigations should be conducted promptly to preserve crucial evidence.

“Alongside reviewing the police report, an attorney will examine all contributing factors,” she added. “Legal counsel has the ability to bring in experts, review driver histories, locate witnesses, and assess insurance policies. Acting as an advocate, an attorney helps injury victims navigate what is often a complex process.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the injured victim may have grounds to pursue a personal injury claim. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, stated that the aftermath of a serious injury can bring overwhelming stress, impacting family life, employment, finances, and overall well-being.

“It is essential for victims to retain an attorney when filing a personal injury claim, allowing proper negotiation with insurance companies on their behalf,” Formica said.

“Insurance providers are often indifferent to the escalating costs faced by injured individuals. An experienced attorney can step in to help. We advocate for victims daily, ensuring insurance companies are held accountable for their obligations,” he added.
