AUGUSTA, GA, (October 16, 2025) – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a hit-and-run collision that fatally injured a pedestrian Thursday night in Augusta.
Renay Brown, 45, of Augusta, was struck by a vehicle in the 900 block of Horseshoe Road around 9 p.m. The driver fled the scene. Brown was rushed to Wellstar MCG, where she sadly died from her injuries. Authorities continue to search for the suspect.
Hit-and-run crashes are a serious crime, yet statistics show that approximately 11% of all crashes involve a fleeing driver. Many suspects leave the scene due to intoxication, lack of a valid license, or fear of arrest.
According to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), an estimated 7,148 pedestrians died nationwide in 2024, including 280 in Georgia.
