Arthur Lee killed by SUV in Kansas City hit-and-run

KANSAS CITY, MO, (March 21, 2026) – Authorities are searching for a driver who fled the scene of a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of Arthur Lee, a well-known local pitmaster.

According to police, the incident occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Eastwood Trafficway. Lee, 60, was riding a scooter and attempting a left-hand turn when a dark-colored SUV ran a red light and struck him.

Emergency responders pronounced Lee dead at the scene. Investigators believe the suspect vehicle is a newer-model SUV with mirrors that include turn signals and likely sustained visible front-end damage.

The Kansas City Police Department continues to review surveillance footage and is asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver.

FATAL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

In many hit-and-run cases, at-fault drivers attempt to evade responsibility by fleeing the scene. However, once identified, suspects can still face serious criminal charges.

Leaving the scene of a crash remains a significant issue, with data showing that hit-and-run incidents occur frequently across U.S. roadways.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, emphasized that it is crucial to initiate an independent investigation as soon as possible to safeguard the rights of victims and their families.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a hit-and-run accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

Bond added that factors such as road conditions, lighting, and visibility are carefully evaluated during a thorough investigation.

These steps are essential to help families pursue justice and secure compensation after losing a loved one in a hit-and-run crash.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Arthur Lee could pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow can be incredibly overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“We understand what families must endure, and ensuring their rights are protected is critical. A wrongful death attorney will remain informed on the official investigation and help safeguard their legal rights and best interests.”
