Police arrest Chamari Pippins in Miami hit-and-run dirt bike crash

MIAMI, FL, (April 18, 2026) – A 22-year-old man was arrested Saturday night after allegedly fleeing from police on a dirt bike and striking a pedestrian on a Wynwood sidewalk, authorities said.

According to Miami police, officers on foot patrol observed a large تجمع of ATVs and dirt bikes blocking traffic at N.W. Second Avenue and N.W. 26th Street. When officers approached Chamari Pippins, he allegedly accelerated on a Yamaha dirt bike without a license tag in an attempt to evade them.

Police said Pippins lost control of the bike, striking a pedestrian standing on the sidewalk before crashing into a parked vehicle. The victim sustained a fractured right elbow along with lacerations to the left eyelid and foot and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released the pedestrian’s identity.

Investigators reported that Pippins was found in possession of a handgun equipped with an extended magazine containing 30 rounds. He now faces multiple charges, including aggravated fleeing and eluding causing injury, possession of a weapon during the commission of an offense, resisting an officer without violence, failure to obey a police officer, and failure to register a vehicle.

The Miami Police Department continues to investigate the incident.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Vulnerable road users such as pedestrians face risks on a daily basis. While everyone must exercise caution, drivers typically bear the greater responsibility.

In 2018, motor vehicles injured an estimated 150,000 pedestrians, according to the National Safety Council.

Pedestrian-related crashes are frequently linked to distracted driving, excessive speed, and failure to yield the right-of-way.

“Having the necessary resources is critical when investigating a pedestrian accident and establishing negligence,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Factors such as roadway conditions, visibility, and lighting are all carefully evaluated during an investigation,” Bond added. “These steps are essential in helping victims and families pursue the justice they deserve.”

Bond further emphasized, “In many cases, pedestrians have the right-of-way when crossing streets or intersections, even outside marked crosswalks, and drivers are required to yield.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

A victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit pending the outcome of the investigation.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, stated, “Injured victims involved in a collision often file personal injury claims to recover costs associated with medical expenses, future care, lost income, emotional distress, and pain and suffering.”

She added, “Insurance companies are often unwilling to fully account for the growing financial burden faced by victims. An experienced attorney can advocate on their behalf, ensuring accountability and helping secure the compensation they deserve.”
