Arnulfo Rodriguez dies after Lubbock pickup truck accident

LUBBOCK, TX (June 29, 2026) — A 64-year-old man died Monday night after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing a Lubbock street, according to police.

Authorities identified the victim as Arnulfo Rodriguez. Police said Rodriguez was walking south across 50th Street when he was hit by a westbound pickup truck driven by a 19-year-old man.

The collision occurred at about 10 p.m. at the intersection of 50th Street and Avenue Q.

Rodriguez was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock, where he later died from his injuries.

The Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal pedestrian accident.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

The investigation remains ongoing by the Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Unit.

Authorities are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, another tragic reminder of the risks pedestrians face while traveling from one place to another. Although pedestrians are involved in only 1% of traffic crashes in Texas, they account for 19% of all roadway fatalities, according to data from the state’s Department of Transportation. In 2024, there were 6,095 crashes involving pedestrians in Texas, resulting in 772 pedestrian deaths and 1,455 serious injuries.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors that investigators review and analyze,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “An accident reconstruction team may sometimes be needed to help determine what happened. These investigative resources are important in helping clients seek monetary compensation for damages or losses following a collision.”

According to data from the Governors Highway Safety Association, the number of pedestrian fatalities in the United States has increased substantially faster than all other traffic deaths. An estimated 6,590 pedestrian fatalities occurred in 2019, the highest number in more than 30 years.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family of Arnulfo Rodriguez may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim for damages related to loss of love and companionship, funeral expenses, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.

“It is almost always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. “Serving as an advocate, an attorney can compassionately guide a family through this difficult time while helping protect their rights.”

Added Formica, “Insurance companies often attempt to pressure families of victims into accepting a quick payout for far less than a case may be worth. An attorney can vigorously advocate for their client to help ensure they are treated with respect and compensated fairly.”
