Armando Gonzalez struck and killed by two vehicles in El Paso

EL PASO, TX, (May 11, 2026) – A 60-year-old man was tragically killed Monday night in a pedestrian crash involving two vehicles in central El Paso, according to police.

Authorities identified the victim as Armando Gonzalez.

Investigators said Gonzalez was struck at approximately 8:15 p.m. in the 6100 block of Alameda Avenue near Clark Drive by a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 71-year-old El Paso resident.

Police said Gonzalez was then thrown to the ground and struck a second time by a Toyota Tacoma operated by an 18-year-old El Paso driver. The Tacoma also carried three passengers, identified as a 29-year-old woman, a 3-year-old girl, and a 60-year-old woman.

Gonzalez suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Special Traffic Investigation unit is continuing to investigate the fatal collision.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

The Special Traffic Investigation unit assumed control of the investigation into the deadly collision.

The crash marked El Paso’s 20th traffic fatality of the year, compared to 22 fatalities reported during the same period last year, according to the El Paso Police Department. Data from the Texas Department of Transportation shows that 5,975 pedestrian-related traffic crashes occurred statewide in 2019, resulting in 669 deaths — a 5% increase over the previous year.

“Roadway conditions, lighting, and visibility are all factors that investigators carefully review in serious pedestrian crashes,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

“In some cases, accident reconstruction specialists are needed to determine exactly how a collision occurred. These investigative resources are important in helping victims and their families pursue compensation for losses connected to a crash,” Bond added.

According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, pedestrian fatalities in the United States have risen at a substantially faster pace than other traffic-related deaths. An estimated 6,590 pedestrians were killed nationwide in 2019, marking the highest total in more than three decades. The National Safety Council also reported that approximately 150,000 pedestrians suffered injuries in vehicle crashes in 2018.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family of Armando Gonzalez may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for funeral expenses, loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and pain and suffering.

“It is generally the responsibility of drivers to yield to pedestrians in or near roadways,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “An attorney can provide compassionate guidance to grieving families during this difficult period while also protecting their legal rights and interests.”

Bond added, “Insurance companies often attempt to pressure families into accepting quick settlements for significantly less than a case may be worth. An experienced attorney will advocate aggressively on behalf of victims’ families to help ensure they are treated fairly and receive appropriate compensation.”
