Police: Armando Escamilla Jr. dies in Yakima County wreck

YAKIMA, WA, (May 23, 2026) – A 22-year-old man lost his life in a hit-and-run collision Saturday night near Granger in Yakima County, according to authorities.

Police said the crash occurred at approximately 9:25 p.m. at the intersection of Hutson Road and Yakima Valley Highway. Investigators determined that an Oldsmobile Bravada SUV entered the intersection without yielding the right of way and was struck by a northbound Honda Civic.

Armando Escamilla Jr., a passenger in the Oldsmobile, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities stated that the driver of the Honda fled immediately after the collision. Officers later located the suspect, who was apprehended following a short foot pursuit.

HIT-AND-RUN CRASH INVESTIGATION

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety reports that hit-and-run crashes continue to increase throughout the United States.

More than 900,000 accidents each year involve drivers who leave the scene, and hit-and-run incidents account for roughly seven percent of all traffic fatalities. In many cases, drivers flee because they are impaired, unlicensed, or fear criminal consequences if they remain at the scene.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, said that in cases such as this, an independent investigation by a qualified attorney is essential to safeguard the rights of victims’ families.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a hit-and-run accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst with Accident Injury News. “Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must be examined. These procedures are necessary for helping someone who has lost a loved one at the hands of a hit-and-run driver receive the justice and monetary compensation that they deserve.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family of Armando Escamilla Jr. may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim following the fatal accident. Families of wrongful death victims can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages connected to a catastrophic tragedy.

“We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death lawyer will stay informed on the official investigation and help make sure that the family’s best interests are protected. Relatives of wrongful death victims are entitled to seek damages for the loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.”
