Aram Saakian dies in Mobile I-10 crash after truck hits abandoned car

MOBILE, AL, (April 15, 2026) – A tragic crash involving a semi-truck and an abandoned vehicle claimed the life of a 26-year-old man early April 15 along Interstate 10 in Mobile.

According to the Mobile Police Department, Aram Saakian was operating a semi-truck hauling vehicles westbound on I-10 when it struck a vehicle that had been left unattended near Tennessee Street at about 1:30 a.m. Following the collision, the truck veered off the roadway, crashed into a concrete barrier, fell from a bridge onto Tennessee Street below, and caught fire.

Saakian was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries and later died on April 19.

Authorities said a 47-year-old Mobile man who allegedly abandoned the vehicle was identified and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with death, attempting to elude law enforcement, and second-degree burglary.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the Alabama Department of Transportation, 975 people died in motor vehicle crashes in the state in 2023, accounting for a fatality rate of 1.36 per hundred million vehicle miles (HMVM), slightly above the national average of 1.26.

“Key elements that will be reviewed include roadway conditions, lighting, and overall visibility at the time of the crash,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“In many cases, accident reconstruction specialists are utilized to determine the sequence of events leading up to a crash. These investigative measures are critical to ensuring that victims and their families can pursue fair compensation,” Bond added.

“Every accident presents unique circumstances and requires a comprehensive investigation. Prompt action is essential so that evidence is preserved and properly analyzed.”

In cases where a driver’s negligence results in another person’s injury or death, the victim may be entitled to compensation via a wrongful death lawsuit.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Aram Saakian could pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The grief and hardship following such a loss can be devastating for families,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“It is crucial that families understand their rights and have them protected. An experienced wrongful death attorney will monitor the official investigation and work to safeguard their best interests.”

“Legal representation can also shield families from insurance companies and their legal teams while thoroughly examining the facts. An attorney will advocate on behalf of the family to ensure accountability and justice.”
