Anthony Johnson Hurt, Vehicle Runs Stop Sign in Marked Tree, AR

Marked Tree, AR (June 28, 2026) — A Marked Tree police officer was injured early Sunday after a resident ran a stop sign and slammed into the patrol vehicle he was driving, according to the Arkansas State Police.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:50 a.m. at the intersection of Nathan Street and Broadway Street. A vehicle failed to stop at a posted stop sign and struck the police unit, causing it to flip onto its passenger side.

A passenger in the patrol unit, a fellow officer, died from injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the other vehicle was airlifted to Regional One Health in Memphis with serious injuries.

Officer Anthony Johnson, who was driving the patrol unit, was transported to NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Arkansas State Police is continuing to investigate the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact authorities.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the Federal Highway Administration, roughly 40 percent of car collisions occur at road intersections, often as a result of drivers running a stop sign or red light. Common reasons drivers blow through stop signs include impatience, reckless driving, and distraction behind the wheel. Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, said an independent investigation should be conducted promptly to protect a victim’s rights.

“It’s essential to pinpoint the exact cause of these types of accidents. An attorney has the resources to review applicable insurance coverage, retain expert witnesses, run background checks, and locate witnesses. We carefully guide the victim’s family through every step of the process,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

She added that in cases like this, it’s important to have an independent investigation conducted as soon as possible to help preserve any available evidence.

“Beyond the official police report, an attorney will thoroughly examine what may have contributed to the crash,” said Bond. “A lawyer has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct driver background checks, locate witnesses to the crash, and review applicable insurance coverage. Acting as an advocate, an attorney can help guide an injury victim through what can be a complicated and stressful process.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

A victim may have grounds to pursue a personal injury claim, pending the results of the investigation.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, said, “Injured victims involved in a collision often pursue a personal injury claim to cover expenses such as medical bills, future medical care, lost income, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.”

“Insurance companies are often notoriously indifferent to the mounting costs an injured party may face. That’s where an attorney can step in. We work daily to protect the victims of these tragedies, holding insurance companies accountable for their mistakes,” he added.
