BILOXI, Miss. — Five people from Texas were injured Sunday evening when their vehicle collided with another car in George County, killing the other driver, the Mississippi Highway Patrol said.
Angelina Jantes, 38, of Lancaster was driving a 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander westbound on U.S. 98 around 6 p.m. Sunday. Leonel Miralrrio Jr., 38, of Dallas was riding as a passenger along with three juveniles.
The group was approaching the intersection of U.S. 98 west and Old Mobile Highway when the collision occurred. Jantes’ Highlander collided with a 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz traveling north on Old Mobile Road.
A 52-year-old Lucedale man was driving the Hyundai when the vehicles collided. The impact killed him at the scene despite emergency response efforts.
Emergency crews transported Jantes, Miralrrio and all three juvenile passengers to an area hospital. All five occupants of the Highlander sustained injuries in the crash.
Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers responded to the scene around 6 p.m. Officers are investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
The crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol. Authorities have not released additional details about the condition of the injured passengers.
