NEWMAN, CA, (April 25, 2026) – A 32-year-old passenger was seriously injured and a driver killed following a single-vehicle crash Saturday morning on Interstate 5 near Newman, authorities said.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 10:40 a.m. north of Stuhr Road. Investigators said a 2004 Ford SUV was traveling northbound when the driver made a left turn, causing the vehicle to overturn into the center median before landing on its roof along the southbound shoulder.
The driver, a 44-year-old man, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger, identified as Angela Quiroga of Van Nuys, was airlifted to a local hospital with major injuries.
Officials said it is not yet known whether impairment was a factor in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
