Andrew Rodriguez charged after Edinburg DUI injury accident

EDINBURG, TX, (April 25, 2026) – A 22-year-old woman was critically injured early Saturday morning after being ejected from a vehicle in a crash involving an alleged impaired driver in Edinburg, authorities said.

According to the Edinburg Police Department, 25-year-old Andrew Rodriguez was driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck at a high rate of speed on Sonoma Avenue at approximately 2:20 a.m. when he attempted a sharp turn onto Rutherford Avenue.

Police said the maneuver caused a backseat passenger to be thrown through an open window. The victim sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Rodriguez was arrested and charged with intoxication assault. The incident remains under investigation.

DWI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

This type of crash highlights how preventable impaired-driving incidents can be. Drivers under the influence pose a serious danger to everyone on the road and can cause life-altering harm.

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), roughly 300,000 people are injured annually in the U.S. due to crashes involving intoxicated drivers. Impairment can lead to poor judgment, reduced vision, slowed reaction times, and diminished coordination.

“Drivers who are impaired by alcohol or drugs may face criminal charges when a crash results in injury or death,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“Beyond criminal proceedings, victims and their families may also pursue compensation through civil litigation against the responsible party,” added Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney.

The National Safety Council reports that about 10 percent of all fatal crashes involve drivers under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medications, making such incidents a leading cause of roadway fatalities.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

The victim may have grounds to pursue a personal injury claim as the investigation continues.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, stated, “Injured victims often file personal injury claims to recover costs related to medical treatment, future care, lost income, emotional distress, and pain and suffering.”

“Insurance companies are often reluctant to fully compensate victims for their losses. Legal representation can help ensure their rights are protected and that insurers are held accountable,” he added.
