Andrew Angstead dies after Asheville Kia Sportage collision

ASHEVILLE, NC, (April 03, 2026) — A 31-year-old man lost his life following a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision Friday evening in Asheville, according to authorities.

The Asheville Police Department reported that a 2024 Kia Sportage was traveling eastbound in the 70 block of Airport Road when it struck Andrew Robert Angstead at approximately 8:41 p.m.

Emergency responders transported Angstead to Mission Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.

Officials said the driver of the Kia was not injured and remained at the scene following the incident. The crash remains under investigation, and anyone with information is urged to contact police at 828-252-1110.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Despite laws designed to protect pedestrians, they remain among the most vulnerable roadway users. Drivers can use bright headlights, when appropriate, to improve visibility and better detect pedestrians.

According to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), 279 pedestrians were killed, and many more were injured in North Carolina in 2024.

“Having the proper resources is critical when investigating a pedestrian accident case and establishing negligence,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

“Factors such as road conditions, lighting, and visibility are all carefully reviewed,” added Bond.

“In some cases, an accident reconstruction team is necessary to help determine exactly what occurred. These resources are essential in helping victims or their families recover compensation after a crash,” said Bond, a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is almost always a driver’s responsibility to yield to pedestrians,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. The family of Andrew Angstead may have grounds for a wrongful death claim.

“Families of wrongful death victims may pursue compensation for loss of income, companionship, emotional suffering, and funeral-related expenses,” Formica stated.

An experienced attorney can provide guidance during this difficult time while safeguarding the family’s legal rights.

“Insurance companies frequently attempt to settle claims quickly for far less than their true value,” Formica added. “An attorney will advocate strongly to ensure fair treatment and proper compensation.”
