Andres Gutierrez held in critical injury DUI accident in Othello WA

ADAMS, WA, (May 15, 2026) – One person suffered critical injuries Friday afternoon in a rollover crash involving an alleged impaired driver in Adams County, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the collision occurred at approximately 2:40 p.m. in the 2200 block of West McManamon Road in Othello. Investigators reported that an 18-year-old driver, identified as Andres Gutierrez, attempted to pass another vehicle when the accident happened.

Officials stated that Gutierrez failed to notice an oncoming vehicle and abruptly returned to his lane. During the maneuver, his vehicle struck the car he had been attempting to pass. The impact caused the other driver to lose control, leave the roadway, and roll over.

The unidentified victim sustained critical injuries in the crash and was transported for medical treatment. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Gutierrez was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular assault in connection with the incident.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Drivers are permitted to pass other vehicles when conditions allow, but unsafe passing attempts remain a leading cause of serious roadway accidents.

Traffic regulations require motorists to ensure there is adequate space and visibility before attempting to pass another vehicle. Passing in unsafe conditions or when hazards are present can quickly lead to devastating collisions.

Irrespective of the outcome of the official investigation, Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, emphasized the importance of conducting an independent investigation to preserve crucial evidence and protect the rights of injured victims.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are among the many factors that must be carefully reviewed,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national analyst at Accident Injury News. “In some cases, accident reconstruction specialists are necessary to determine exactly how a crash occurred. These resources are vital in helping victims pursue compensation for injuries and other losses resulting from a collision.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

The victim injured in this accident may have grounds to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, explained that the aftermath of a serious injury can place enormous emotional and financial strain on victims and their families.

“While financial compensation cannot erase the trauma caused by a serious crash, victims should fully understand the legal rights and protections available to them,” Formica said. “An injured victim may be eligible to pursue an injury claim seeking compensation for medical bills, future treatment costs, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and other related damages.”
