Amy Derrera Injured in Hutchinson Crash on Highway 22

HUTCHINSON, MN, (September 24, 2026) – Amy Lynn Derrera, 56, of Fairmont, suffered life-threatening injuries Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision in Hutchinson, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:51 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 22 and California Street. Troopers reported that a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling west on Highway 22 collided with a stopped 1989 Pontiac 6000 Wagon.

Wet road conditions were reported at the time of the collision.

Derrera was driving the Pontiac. She and two passengers suffered life-threatening injuries and were transported to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment.

The driver of the Jeep was not injured.

The Minnesota State Patrol is asking anyone with information about the crash to contact authorities.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Every year, millions of people are injured in traffic crashes across the United States, many suffering life-altering consequences. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 2.44 million people were injured in motor vehicle accidents nationwide in 2023.

As the cause and liability of the crash are being investigated, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, said that having an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned attorney is imperative.

“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview key witnesses, analyze surveillance video from the crash scene, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and the victim’s family must make sure that evidence is reviewed efficiently,” said Bond.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the investigation results, a victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the stress and uncertainty following a serious injury can be overwhelming, affecting every area of life, including family, employment, finances, and overall quality of life.

“It is important for victims to retain an attorney when pursuing a personal injury claim, as this allows them to negotiate with an insurance company on the client’s behalf,” Formica added.

“Insurance companies may attempt to pressure victims into accepting a quick settlement for substantially less than a case is worth. An attorney, however, will vigorously advocate for the client to ensure they are treated with respect and receive fair compensation.”
