Amber Hudgens Killed in Fairview Hit-and-Run Crash: NCHP

FAIRVIEW, NC, (September 21, 2026) – The North Carolina Highway Patrol is searching for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed 29-year-old Amber Michelle Hudgens on Sept. 21 in Fairview.

Early reports indicate that Hudgens’ vehicle became disabled for unknown reasons shortly after 8 p.m. on Cane Creek Road.

While Hudgens was on the roadway, a small red passenger car struck her, causing fatal injuries, troopers said. The vehicle did not stop at the scene, according to officials.

Hudgens, a Fairview resident, died as a result of the crash.

Authorities are working to locate the vehicle and identify the driver involved in the fatal collision.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

A motorist involved in a hit-and-run crash is required to remain at the scene and notify law enforcement officials. Failing to do so can result in criminal charges and other legal consequences.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 2,872 people died in hit-and-run crashes in 2023, down from 2,972 the previous year. Officials said the decline, although small, is significant and indicates that the total number of hit-and-run crashes likely fell to around 2,800.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a hit-and-run case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that must be considered and thoroughly examined. These procedures are necessary for helping those who have lost a loved one receive the justice that they deserve.”

Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News, added that drivers must exercise great care behind the wheel because even a momentary lapse in attention can result in deadly consequences.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Amber Michelle Hudgens may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident such as this one.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“We understand what families are forced to go through, and protecting their rights is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will monitor the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
