Amanda Bell loses leg in Royse City motorcycle accident duringchase

ROYSE CITY, Texas – A Royse City woman lost her leg following a motorcycle crash with a vehicle being pursued by police along FM-35 near Mercer Drive.

The crash occurred on June 6 at around 9:45 p.m. Dakota and Amanda Bell were riding their motorcycles approximately two miles from their home when they saw a car enter their lane.

The Royse City Police Department confirmed that the Department of Public Safety was pursuing a driver when the chase crossed into city limits. The fleeing vehicle subsequently collided with Amanda’s motorcycle.

Amanda sustained a right leg amputation above the knee and injuries to her hand requiring rods and screws. Her motorcycle helmet showed minimal damage in the crash.

The Bells stated that their safety equipment prevented more severe injuries.

Police have not released information about the pursued driver or potential charges related to the incident. The investigation is ongoing.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

“Motorcyclists are arguably the most vulnerable motorists on the road,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

Motorcycle fatalities reached a tragic milestone in 2023, with 6,335 deaths—the highest number ever recorded since NHTSA began tracking motorcycle deaths in 1975. These deaths accounted for 15% of all traffic fatalities despite motorcycles representing only a small fraction of vehicles on the road.

Bond, a seasoned motorcycle accident attorney, emphasized the need for an independent investigation in cases like this to ensure the victim receives proper legal protection.

“Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must be thoroughly examined. These procedures are necessary for helping those who have been injured receive the justice that they deserve.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending an investigation, Amanda Bell may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Bond noted that stress from an injury is overwhelming and disrupts all aspects of life, including family, work, finances, and overall quality of life.

“It is vital for victims to hire an attorney when filing a personal injury claim, which allows the attorney to negotiate with insurance companies on behalf of their client,” she said.

“Insurance companies often try to pressure victims to settle for a quick payout for far less than the case is worth. However, an attorney will vigorously advocate for their clients to ensure that they are treated with respect and compensated fairly.”
