Almeta Sizemore killed in Stokes County Head-on crash with teen driver

STOKES, NC, (April 15, 2026) — A 67-year-old Walnut Cove woman died Wednesday morning following a two-vehicle crash at a Stokes County intersection involving a teenage driver, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP).

Authorities said the collision occurred at approximately 9:29 a.m. when a 2019 Nissan Versa attempted to turn left from South Stokes School Road onto N.C. Highway 8 and failed to yield to oncoming traffic.

A southbound 2020 Hyundai Veloster, driven by Almeta Bridges Sizemore, struck the Nissan in the intersection. Following the impact, the Hyundai left the roadway and collided with a utility box and a concrete driveway.

Sizemore was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 10:46 a.m.

The 17-year-old driver of the Nissan, from Madison, was also taken to a hospital with injuries.

Troopers said the teen has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, failure to yield the right-of-way, and failure to stop at a stop sign. Authorities confirmed that impairment was not a factor in the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

A variety of factors contribute to the rise in traffic fatalities, with driver behavior remaining a primary cause—including speeding, impaired driving, and distracted driving, particularly from cellphone use. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 8,055 people lost their lives in motor vehicle crashes during the first quarter of 2025.

As authorities continue to determine fault in this case, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of an independent investigation.

“In addition to law enforcement efforts, an attorney can revisit key witness statements, review available surveillance footage, and obtain phone and text records from the involved parties,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Time is critical in cases like this, and it is essential that the victim’s family ensures all evidence is preserved and examined promptly,” Bond added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Almeta Sizemore may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages following a tragic accident.

“The grief and emotional toll after losing a loved one in a crash can be overwhelming,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“We understand the challenges families face during such times, and protecting their legal rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the investigation and help ensure their best interests are fully represented,” Bond added.
