Allison Ortegano Dies in Independence Crash With Child Injured

INDEPENDENCE, MO, (September 19, 2026) – Allison Ortegano, 31, and her unborn child were killed Saturday after she was struck by a vehicle in Independence, according to police.

Police said the driver of a Jeep lost control at about 8:40 p.m. near Walnut Street and Dodgion Street. Investigators said the Jeep was traveling westbound when it lost control and struck Ortegano, a young child, and several parked cars.

Ortegano and her unborn child were transported to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Ortegano’s 18-month-old son suffered a non-life-threatening head laceration and was treated at an area hospital.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Pedestrian fatalities reached a record high in Missouri in 2024, with 148 deaths, representing a 16 percent increase from the previous year.

Pedestrians can be affected by several factors, including speeding, driver error, distracted driving, and impaired driving.

Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney, stressed that in cases such as this, an independent investigation by a seasoned lawyer is important to help protect the rights of a victim’s family.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst at Accident Injury News. “Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must thoroughly be examined. These procedures are necessary for helping those who have lost a loved one receive the justice and monetary compensation that they deserve.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Allison Ortegano may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Relatives of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain, suffering, and emotional distress after a tragic or catastrophic accident.

“We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their best interests are taken care of. Relatives of wrongful death victims are entitled to seek damages for the loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.”
