Aljean Ledet killed in high-speed rear-end crash in Terrebonne

TERREBONNE, LA, (March 25, 2026) — A 58-year-old Chauvin resident, Aljean Ledet, was killed and another driver seriously injured Wednesday evening in a two-vehicle crash in Terrebonne Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.

Preliminary findings indicate that a 2006 Pontiac G6 was traveling northbound on State Highway 56 at a high rate of speed shortly after 6 p.m. A 2008 Chevrolet Colorado, driven by Ledet, was also heading north ahead of the Pontiac.

Authorities said the Pontiac failed to slow down and rear-ended the Chevrolet near Josie Court. The impact forced the Chevrolet off the roadway, where it overturned. Ledet was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Pontiac driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital. The crash remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Excessive speed significantly limits a driver’s ability to respond to sudden roadway changes, increasing both the risk and severity of collisions. A variety of factors contribute to rising traffic fatalities, but driver behavior—such as speeding, impaired driving, and distractions like cellphone use—remains a primary concern. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 8,055 people lost their lives in motor vehicle crashes during the first quarter of 2025.

As investigators continue to determine the cause and liability in this crash, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of conducting an independent investigation.

“Beyond the work completed by law enforcement, an attorney can revisit the scene, re-interview key witnesses, review surveillance footage, and secure phone and texting records of the responsible party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

Prompt action is critical in cases like this to ensure that evidence is preserved and thoroughly reviewed for the victim’s family.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Aljean Ledet may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages resulting from a tragic accident.

“We recognize that the loss of a loved one brings both emotional devastation and financial hardship,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“If a loved one has been lost due to another party’s negligence, it is crucial to seek legal guidance to help secure justice and fair compensation.”
