CENTRAL SQUARE, NY — June 27, 2026 — A 62-year-old woman died Saturday evening after a runaway trailer broke free from a pickup truck and struck her while she was crossing a street on a motorized mobility scooter in Central Square, according to the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of East Avenue (State Route 49) and Gertrude Drive. Investigators determined that an enclosed trailer became detached from a 2016 Ram 2500 pickup truck that was traveling eastbound on East Avenue. The trailer veered into the intersection, where it struck Alice Visneau, who was using a motorized mobility scooter to cross the street at the time.
Visneau was transported to Upstate Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The driver of the pickup truck, a 21-year-old man from Fulton, was operating the vehicle on behalf of Big Kahuna Rentals Inc. He was not reported to have suffered injuries.
The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the detachment of the trailer and the fatal collision. No further information has been released at this time.
