Alezander Cruz arrested in Georgetown fatal DUI crash, Police state

GEORGETOWN, TX — A driver suspected of impairment struck an Oncor utility crew on Sunday, November 23, 2025, resulting in one fatality and two injuries, according to local police.

The crash took place around 2:31 p.m. near Westinghouse Road and Kelley Drive. A preliminary investigation by police found that Alezander Cruz, 20, of Austin, was driving a black Ford Escape south on Kelley Drive when he crashed into a utility truck that was working in the area, causing a chain reaction that pushed it into another vehicle. Three utility workers were trapped between the two trucks. Tragically, one of the workers, a 20-year-old man from College Station, succumbed to his injuries. Two other utility employees were transported to a local hospital.

Cruz was arrested and booked on charges including intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault. A passenger in his vehicle fled the scene, and the investigation remains ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is widely recognized as a major factor in traffic fatalities across the nation, drastically increasing the risk of collisions that can kill or seriously injure individuals. Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows that alcohol-impaired driving resulted in an average of approximately 10,850 deaths annually between 2012 and 2021.

Candice Bond, a Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News, notes that drivers who cause harm or death due to impairment are subject to criminal charges. “Separately from criminal charges, the family of a victim may pursue compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party,” Bond explained. In cases such as this, an independent investigation is critical to determine all contributing factors and secure evidence, including blood-alcohol content test results.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of the utility worker killed in the crash may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim. Such a claim seeks to recover financial damages including funeral and burial expenses, medical costs related to the fatal injury, the loss of future earnings and companionship, and pain and suffering.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal and a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News, states that a fatality is considered a wrongful death when it results from a negligent act. “When a fatal vehicle accident is caused by unsafe driving, such as intoxication or speeding, family members typically have the option to pursue a civil action against the motorist responsible,” Formica noted. He added that a civil claim focuses on securing financial relief for the immense physical and emotional suffering experienced by the victim and their family.
