ROCKFORD, Ill.— A vehicle struck a pedestrian on April 19 at a Rockford intersection, leaving him fatally injured.
The accident happened at approximately 11:05 p.m. at N. Second and Auburn streets. Authorities said a vehicle struck a man in the roadway. Emergency responders arrived and transported him to a hospital.
Officials identified 48-year-old Alan Varela as the pedestrian involved. Medical teams treated him for life-threatening injuries, but he was pronounced dead at 11:37 p.m.
The driver remained at the scene and authorities have not announced any charges.
Additional details of the accident were not immediately released.
