ATLANTA, GA, (August 12, 2026) – A 34-year-old man died in a pedestrian accident early Wednesday morning on Interstate 75 in north Atlanta.
According to the Atlanta Police Department, Akil Lateef Mayer was struck by at least four vehicles a little before 5 a.m. in the area of Howell Mill Road.
Mayer was pronounced dead at the scene.
Atlanta police continue to investigate the incident.
This tragic accident underscores the dangers that pedestrians face every day in this country.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 7,522 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes in 2022, the highest number recorded since 1981.
