Adrian Monroy killed in Marion County wreck; passenger hurt

MARION, OR, (April 29, 2026) – Adrian Ramos Monroy, 18, of Salem, was killed early Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Marion County that also left a passenger seriously injured.

According to the Oregon State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 1:48 a.m. on Highway 214 near milepost 22. Investigators said Monroy was driving a Subaru WRX southbound at a high rate of speed when the vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons.

The car struck a tree and continued down an embankment before coming to rest and catching fire.

A 24-year-old Salem woman who was a passenger in the vehicle sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Monroy died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Single-vehicle crashes are frequently linked to driver-related factors such as speeding, impairment, or other unsafe behaviors.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) reports that approximately 53% of crashes in the U.S. involve a single vehicle. Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney, emphasized that many such crashes are preventable and highlighted the importance of an independent investigation.

“Acting quickly is critical in these cases to ensure that evidence is preserved and reviewed thoroughly,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Beyond the efforts of law enforcement, an attorney can evaluate potential contributing factors, retain expert witnesses, conduct background checks, identify witnesses, and review applicable insurance coverage. Legal counsel also plays an important role in guiding victims through the process while protecting their rights and interests.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

The injured passenger in this crash may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the aftermath of a serious injury can create significant stress, impacting a victim’s personal life, employment, and financial stability.

“While no financial recovery can undo a serious injury, it is important for victims to understand their legal rights and options,” Formica said. “The injured party in this case may be eligible to seek compensation for medical expenses, ongoing care, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.”
