Adrian McCants Dies After Anderson Pedestrian Collision: SCHP

ANDERSON, SC (June 22, 2026) — A 22-year-old man died Thursday, three days after he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to repair a disabled vehicle along Pearman Dairy Road in Anderson, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP).

Authorities said the incident occurred at approximately 10:59 p.m. Monday near Whitehall Road. Investigators determined that Adrian McCants and another man were attempting to fix a flat tire on their disabled vehicle when they were struck by a Kia sedan.

McCants was transported to AnMed Medical Center for treatment. He later succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.

The second victim died at the scene, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

According to the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), the state recorded a pedestrian fatality rate of 3.48 per 100,000 residents in 2023, ranking fifth in the nation.

Nearly 200 people lost their lives in pedestrian crashes across South Carolina that year. Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney, said many of these collisions result from driver negligence. She emphasized that an independent investigation by an experienced attorney can play an important role in protecting the rights of a victim’s family.

“Having the appropriate resources is essential when investigating a pedestrian accident case and establishing negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Road conditions, traffic sign visibility, and roadway lighting are among the factors that should be carefully evaluated. A thorough investigation is critical in helping families pursue justice and the financial compensation they deserve.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Adrian McCants may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Relatives of wrongful death victims may seek damages for the loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.

“We understand the difficult circumstances families face after losing a loved one, and protecting their legal rights is essential,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“A wrongful death attorney can monitor the official investigation while helping safeguard the family’s best interests. Surviving relatives may be entitled to recover damages for the loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.”
