Adrian Hernández-Villalobos killed in Yakima DUI collision

YAKIMA, WA, (April 18, 2026) – A 29-year-old man, identified as Adrian Hernández-Villalobos, was killed Saturday evening in a suspected drunk-driving crash at 18th Street and East Yakima Avenue in Yakima, according to authorities.

Officials said a pickup truck crossed the double yellow line while attempting to pass other vehicles and collided with a sedan traveling west on East Yakima Avenue. The impact caused both vehicles to strike another pickup truck, resulting in minor injuries to two occupants of that vehicle.

Hernández-Villalobos, who was partially ejected from the sedan, died at the scene, according to the Yakima County Coroner’s Office.

A fundraiser has been created by the victim’s family to help cover funeral expenses.

The driver of the first pickup truck was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular homicide. The investigation is ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Even if a driver does not feel impaired, alcohol or drugs can still significantly affect coordination and reaction time. Impaired driving greatly increases the risk of serious or fatal crashes. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 10,850 people died annually in drunk-driving crashes between 2012 and 2021.

A full independent investigation is typically required to determine contributing factors, including toxicology test results that measure blood-alcohol content levels.

“Drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs may face criminal charges following a crash that causes injury or death,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “In addition to criminal proceedings, families of victims may also pursue civil claims for compensation against the responsible party.”

“Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help guide families through this difficult time, ensuring their rights are protected while holding impaired drivers accountable,” added Bond, a national legal analyst with Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family members of Adrian Hernández-Villalobos may be entitled to a wrongful death claim for medical expenses, funeral costs, loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.

“An incident is considered a wrongful death when a person or entity commits a negligent or wrongful act resulting in death,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“When fatalities result from speeding, reckless driving, distraction, or driving under the influence, families are typically able to pursue civil action against the responsible party.”
