Adams Co I-25 crash kills Chris Serna during aid effort, CSP says

ADAMS, CO (April 4, 2026) – A man was killed early Saturday in a secondary crash on Interstate 25 in Adams County, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Chris Serna was identified as the victim who died after being struck near East 58th Avenue at approximately 3:45 a.m.

Authorities said Serna had been a passenger in a Mitsubishi Uber rideshare vehicle involved in an initial rear-end collision with a Chevrolet Trax. After the crash, Serna exited the vehicle to assist others involved.

A 27-year-old woman driving a 2020 Mercedes-Benz then collided with the rear of the Trax, striking Serna and another individual outside the vehicle.

Serna was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Trax sustained serious injuries, while the Mercedes driver suffered minor injuries. The Uber driver was not hurt.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Each year, pedestrian fatalities continue to rise across U.S. roadways. Many of these tragedies are preventable if drivers remain attentive. The Governors Highway Safety Association reported that approximately 3,304 pedestrians were struck and killed in the first half of 2024.

“Having the right resources is critical when investigating pedestrian accidents and establishing negligence,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

“Factors such as road conditions, visibility of signage, and lighting must all be carefully evaluated. These steps are essential in helping families seek justice after a loss,” Bond explained.

“In some cases, accident reconstruction specialists are needed to determine the sequence of events. These efforts are vital in helping clients pursue compensation for damages or losses,” added Bond, a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is generally the responsibility of drivers to yield to pedestrians,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. The family of the victim may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“Surviving family members may be entitled to compensation for loss of income, companionship, emotional distress, pain and suffering, and funeral expenses,” Formica stated.

An attorney can serve as a strong advocate, guiding families through the legal process while protecting their rights.

“Insurance companies often attempt to settle quickly for less than a claim’s full value,” Formica added. “An attorney will work to ensure fair treatment and appropriate compensation.”
