Adam Reyna dies after tractor-trailer failure-to-yield crash TX

ABILENE, TX (April 21, 2026) — A 26-year-old Mission man, Adam Lee Reyna, was killed Tuesday evening in a violent two-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer at an intersection in Taylor County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Officials said the crash occurred just before 5 p.m. at the intersection of Texas 351 and Taylor County Road 54/504. DPS reported that a 2006 Mack tractor-trailer traveling west failed to yield at a stop sign and entered the path of a northbound 2019 Dodge Ram driven by Reyna.

The impact was severe, causing the pickup truck to ignite and become fully engulfed in flames. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Reyna was pronounced dead at the location by the Justice of the Peace.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, 68-year-old Miguel Angel Casanova, sustained minor injuries and was treated at Hendrick North Emergency Care. Investigators later determined Casanova was impaired due to an overdose of medication at the time of the crash.

Casanova was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter. He was booked into the Taylor County Jail on a $100,000 bond. DPS continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

DUI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Texas ranks among the most dangerous states for impaired driving incidents, with alcohol and drug-related crashes contributing significantly to roadway fatalities. In 2023, the Texas Department of Transportation recorded more than 26,000 crashes involving impaired drivers, resulting in 1,138 deaths and thousands of injuries statewide.

An independent investigation will be required to determine additional contributing factors in this case, including toxicology results and potential roadway or mechanical conditions.

Candice Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney, was interviewed and shared insight on cases involving impaired driving fatalities.

“Separate from criminal charges, a victim may be entitled to compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and text records of the liable party. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide a family during this difficult time, protecting their legal rights while ensuring accountability for those who choose to drive impaired.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Adam Reyna may pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand just what families must go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
