OHP: Adam Caldwell Dies in Pottawatomie Dump Truck Crash

POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY, OK (June 23, 2026) — A Yukon man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a fiery crash involving a dump truck on U.S. 177 in Pottawatomie County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the collision occurred at approximately 1:25 p.m. near Summerwood Lane.

Investigators said a southbound Peterbilt dump truck was traveling behind a Subaru Crosstrek that had stopped to make a left turn while waiting for northbound traffic. Another vehicle reportedly passed the stopped Subaru on the right shoulder.

The dump truck driver attempted to stop but lost control, causing the truck to slide sideways across both lanes of traffic. The truck then struck the Subaru and a northbound Ford Transit Connect driven by 39-year-old Adam Caldwell.

According to the OHP, both the Ford Transit Connect and the dump truck caught fire after the collision.

Caldwell was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), most fatalities in large truck crashes involve occupants of passenger vehicles.

A total of 4,354 people died in large truck crashes in 2023. Sixteen percent of those killed were truck occupants, 65% were occupants of cars and other passenger vehicles, and 17% were pedestrians, bicyclists, or motorcyclists.

As investigators continue working to determine the cause of the crash and any potential liability, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of conducting an independent investigation.

“In addition to the work performed by law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview key witnesses, review surveillance footage from the crash scene, and obtain phone and texting records from the party believed to be liable,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“By serving as an advocate for the family, an attorney can provide compassionate guidance during this difficult time while also helping protect the family’s legal rights and best interests.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Adam Caldwell may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Relatives of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.

“We understand the difficult challenges families face after losing a loved one, and protecting their legal rights is extremely important,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“A wrongful death attorney can stay informed about the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s best interests are protected. Families may be entitled to seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress after a tragic or catastrophic accident.”
