Abraham Ponce Dies in Fiery Raleigh SUV Crash, RPD Says

Raleigh, NC (June 27, 2026) — An 18-year-old driver died Saturday afternoon when his SUV left the roadway, struck trees, and caught fire in the Brier Creek area of northwest Raleigh, according to the Raleigh Police Department.

Abraham Karim Manrique Ponce was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. A juvenile passenger, who was wearing a seat belt, was able to exit the SUV on his own and was transported with non-life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation indicates the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway to the right and struck two trees on Arco Corporate Drive near Macaw Street at approximately 1:14 p.m.

The Raleigh Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the resulting blaze. The crash remains under investigation by the Raleigh Police Department.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Raleigh Police Department.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Every year, millions of people are injured in traffic crashes across the United States—many suffering life-altering consequences. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 2.44 million people were injured in motor vehicle accidents nationwide in 2023.

While the cause and liability surrounding the crash remain under investigation, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, stressed the importance of conducting an independent investigation led by a knowledgeable attorney.

“Beyond the thorough efforts of law enforcement, an attorney can go back and re-interview key witnesses, examine any available surveillance footage from the crash scene, and obtain phone and text records belonging to the at-fault party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“In situations like this, time matters greatly, and it’s essential for the victim’s family to make sure all evidence is reviewed promptly,” Bond added.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, a victim may have grounds to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the anxiety and emotional toll following a serious injury can be overwhelming, affecting nearly every part of a person’s life—from family and work to finances and overall well-being.

“Hiring an attorney is essential for victims pursuing a personal injury claim, as it allows them to negotiate directly with insurance companies on their behalf,” Formica added.

“Insurance companies frequently attempt to pressure victims into accepting a fast settlement for far less than their case is actually worth. An attorney, however, will fight diligently on behalf of their client to make sure they’re treated fairly and compensated appropriately.”
