Abigail Baca killed in Union City sedan and truck crash

UNION CITY, CA, (September 11, 2026) – A 14-year-old Palo Alto girl was killed in a two-vehicle crash involving a sedan and a commercial box truck Friday morning in Union City, authorities said.

The victim was identified as Abigail Daisy Giselle Baca, according to the Alameda County coroner.

According to the Union City Police Department, Baca was a front-seat passenger in a Mazda sedan that collided with a large commercial box truck at the intersection of Alvarado-Niles and Decoto roads.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene shortly after 8 a.m. and transported Baca to a local hospital. She succumbed to her injuries three days later.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched to help cover Abby’s funeral and other expenses.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Several factors contribute to traffic fatalities, including driver behavior such as speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and distracted driving, particularly cellphone use. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 8,055 people were killed in motor vehicle collisions during the first quarter of 2025.

As the cause and liability of the crash remain under investigation, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, said an independent investigation by a seasoned attorney is important.

“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, review surveillance video from the crash scene, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Time is of the essence in cases such as this one, and the victim’s family must ensure that evidence is reviewed efficiently.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, family members of Abigail Daisy Giselle Baca may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident.

“We understand that losing a loved one is not only a deeply emotional loss but also an economic one,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel with Bond Legal. “If you have lost a loved one due to someone else’s negligence, contact a wrongful death attorney and obtain the guidance needed to pursue the justice you deserve.”

“Insurance companies may try to take advantage of a lack of knowledge of the law by offering a low settlement or denying a claim altogether. An attorney can protect your rights and help ensure that you are not taken advantage of.”
