Abel Quintero died in Riverside 91 Freeway wrong-way collision

CORONA, CA (April 19, 2026) — A wrong-way crash involving multiple vehicles early Sunday morning on the Riverside (91) Freeway in Corona left one person dead and another injured, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities identified the victim as 25-year-old Abel Quintero of Lake Elsinore.

CHP reported that a black Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes near the Green River Road off-ramp at approximately 5:35 a.m. The vehicle collided with at least five other vehicles, including a semi-truck.

Quintero, who may have been driving the Ford pickup, sustained fatal injuries in the crash.

The driver of the semi-truck was transported to a hospital with minor injuries. The incident remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Although wrong-way crashes make up a small percentage of roadway incidents in the United States, they tend to be especially deadly, with alcohol impairment often playing a significant role. Data from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety shows that 2,008 fatalities occurred in wrong-way crashes on divided highways between 2015 and 2018. Additionally, the National Safety Council reported 5.1 million medically consulted injuries from motor vehicle accidents in 2023.

As investigators work to determine the cause and liability of this crash, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner at Bond Legal, stressed the importance of an independent investigation.

“Beyond the work conducted by law enforcement, an attorney can re-examine key witness statements, review surveillance footage from the scene, and obtain phone and text records of the responsible party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

Prompt action is critical in cases like this, ensuring that evidence is preserved and carefully reviewed for the benefit of the victim’s family.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family members of Abel Quintero may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages following a tragic accident.

“We recognize that losing a loved one brings not only emotional pain but also financial hardship,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel with Bond Legal.

“If a loved one has been lost due to another party’s negligence, it is important to seek guidance from a wrongful death attorney to help secure justice and fair compensation.”
