Abbeville Police: Brandy Duncan Died in Hit-and-Run, Arrest Made

ABBEVILLE, AL — June 26, 2026 — A 46-year-old Abbeville woman was killed Friday night in a hit-and-run on Ozark Road, and a suspect has since been taken into custody, according to the Abbeville Police Department.

Brandy Duncan, 46, of Abbeville, was discovered lying in the 100 block of Ozark Road with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Henry County Coroner Derek Wright pronounced Duncan dead at the scene at 9 p.m.

Following an investigation, authorities arrested a 31-year-old man and charged him with one count of leaving the scene of an accident causing injury or death. Investigators determined the suspect was present at the scene where Duncan was killed.

The Abbeville Police Department continues to investigate the fatal incident. Investigators are actively reviewing camera footage and interviewing potential witnesses. Anyone with information or video footage related to the incident is asked to contact Henry County dispatch.

FATAL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime, yet statistics show that more than one hit-and-run crash occurs every minute on U.S. roads.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, said that in cases such as this, it is critical to have an independent investigation conducted promptly by a seasoned attorney in order to protect the rights of a victim.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a hit-and-run accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors that must be carefully considered and examined,” said Bond.

These steps are essential for helping someone who has lost a loved one at the hands of a hit-and-run driver receive the justice and monetary compensation they deserve, as highlighted by Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of a victim could have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand just what families must endure, and having their rights protected is absolutely vital. A wrongful death lawyer will remain closely updated on the official investigation and work to ensure that their legal rights and best interests are fully protected.”
