Aaron Keith fatally struck in Oceanside SR-76 hit-and-run accident

OCEANSIDE, CA, (April 26, 2026) – A 24-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Oceanside, according to police.

Authorities identified the victim as Aaron Lee Keith.

Officers responded to westbound State Route 76 near Singh Way around 10:55 a.m., where they found Keith unresponsive on the roadside. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe Keith was struck by a vehicle sometime between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Sunday, with the driver fleeing the scene.

The Oceanside Police Department Traffic Unit is continuing its investigation.

No additional details have been released.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Even brief delays in emergency response after a serious crash can be fatal. Leaving the scene of an accident provides no benefit to victims and only complicates investigations. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, nearly 65 percent of hit-and-run fatalities involve pedestrians or bicyclists.

“Proper investigative resources are critical in hit-and-run cases to establish negligence and identify responsible parties,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

Bond added that drivers are required to exercise extreme caution at all times while operating a vehicle.

An attorney may examine all factors contributing to the crash, including scene evidence, witness accounts, and insurance coverage, while working with experts to reconstruct the incident and support the investigation.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Aaron Lee Keith may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families in such cases may seek damages for loss of companionship, emotional distress, pain and suffering, and other related losses.

“The grief following a sudden and tragic loss can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal.

“A wrongful death attorney will monitor the investigation closely and ensure that the victim’s legal rights and interests are fully protected.”
