SAN MARCOS, Texas — The San Marcos Police Department is investigating an accident that happened May 15 at 1 a.m. at Hopkins Street and LBJ Drive. Officials said a pickup truck struck six pedestrians in a downtown crosswalk.
Authorities identified the driver as Enrique Gutierrez-Field, 24. Officers arrested him at the scene.
Gutierrez-Field was driving a pickup truck on LBJ Drive when he struck a group of pedestrians in the crosswalk.
Officials charged him with six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, four counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle, and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
Emergency personnel transported four victims to Ascension Seton Hays Hospital in Kyle. One was taken to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in San Marcos. Another was transported in a private vehicle.
The investigation remains ongoing.

More than 2,850 people were killed by hit-and-run crashes in 2022 — a significant increase compared to earlier years.
