GORDON COUNTY, Ga. — The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a multi-vehicle accident that happened May 13 on Interstate 75 near milepost 308. Officials said a tractor-trailer crossed the median and struck several vehicles.
Authorities identified two of the deceased as William West, 50, and Christopher Powell, 23. A third individual also died, but officials are withholding the identity pending notification of family.
A northbound tractor-trailer collided with a Hyundai Sonata. The impact sent the Hyundai off the right shoulder while the truck veered into southbound lanes.
The tractor-trailer struck two other trucks and two passenger vehicles, including a Toyota Corolla and a Ford Ranger. The Ford caught fire.
Six vehicles were involved in the accident. Two individuals suffered injuries and were transported to area hospitals. Two other occupants were not injured.
The Gordon County Coroner’s Office confirmed the fatalities. Officials continue to investigate the accident and urge anyone with information to contact law enforcement.
